Arriving in Avoriaz: How Car-Free Drop-Off Works
Avoriaz is car-free, so your transfer can't drive to your door. Here's exactly what happens when you arrive, and how to get your bags to your apartment.

Avoriaz, at 1,800 m above Morzine, is one of the few truly car-free ski resorts in the Alps. That's a big part of its charm, but it means arrival day works differently from other resorts.
Can a transfer drop me at my apartment in Avoriaz?
No, and that's the same for every transfer company, taxi and hire car. Vehicles stop at the resort entrance, and from there you travel on foot, on skis, or with the resort's luggage services.
How do I get my luggage to my accommodation?
At the entrance you'll find services to carry you and your bags to your accommodation, including Avoriaz's famous horse-drawn sleighs. Many residences also offer their own luggage help, so check with your accommodation provider before you travel.
How long does the transfer take?
Geneva Airport to Avoriaz is about 93 km and usually takes around 1 hour 30 minutes, longer on busy Saturdays or in heavy snow. The last section climbs from Morzine up the mountain road, which is why winter tyres, snow chains and an experienced local driver matter.
Tips for a smooth arrival
- Pack so each person can manage their own bag for a short distance
- Have your accommodation's name and access details handy
- Arrive in daylight if you can. It's easier to find your way around the resort
- Keep gloves and a warm layer in your hand luggage, as it's often well below freezing at 1,800 m
