Morzine is about 80 km from Geneva Airport, roughly 1 hour 15 minutes by road. There are four main ways to make the journey, and the best one depends on your group size, your budget and how much luggage you're carrying. 3. Public transport
You can get from Geneva to Morzine by train and bus: the Léman Express rail line runs from Geneva towards Thonon-les-Bains, where regional buses continue up the valley to Morzine.
- Time: typically 2.5 hours or more, depending on connections
- Cost: the cheapest option for one person
- Best for: light travellers on a tight budget with flexible timings
The catch is changes with ski bags, limited late-evening connections and a walk from the bus stop to your chalet. Always check current timetables before you travel, as winter services change year to year.
4. Hire car
- Time: about 1h15, plus collecting and returning the car
- Cost: varies widely. Add fuel, parking in resort, and snow chains or winter tyres
- Best for: people who want to explore other valleys during their stay
If you hire a car, hire from the French side of Geneva Airport to avoid needing a Swiss motorway vignette. In winter, French law requires winter tyres or chains in the mountains. Parking in Morzine in peak season can be difficult, and in car-free Avoriaz the car sits in a paid car park all week.
Which is best?
For most families and groups, a private transfer is the least hassle and often the best value per person. Couples on a budget may prefer shared. If you want to explore, hire a car. And if you're travelling light with time to spare, public transport works.
